Are we dead…??

“Why are you fighting for Rs.10??? What difference will it make to you…you will go ,  have dinner with family and will sleep with no worries…Its us..the poor , who have nothing to eat, who stand in miles long queues …for hours and some time for whole day in the hot sun & still go homes without flour for their family members….” He was a Rickshaw driver outside a shopping plaza on Tariq Road.I hate shopping, yet I went for it  as this was probably my last time in Karachi .  The conversation started when we (me & one of my friend ) were finally finished with buying some dresses..& were searching for a rickshaw to drop us at our homes…

My friend found one & and after negotiations  he  demanded Rs. 140 & I was probably “too smart” in dictating him..“No, Not 140, just 130 & not a Rupee more” & it was then when the Rickshaw driver said the above words in Urdu.

I heard these & suddenly dozens of pictures flashed in my mind.Pictures that I have been seeing for the last few _________(days, months, years..I don’t know what should I write here, lets say days…) Picture with women of all ages , & by here I mean even 70 + standing desperately & hopelessly with amount equal to the price of one packet of 10 Kg flour ,  tightened in their hands, pictures of old and middle aged men , young chaps &  kids…..dying to get just a bag of flour

These picture were making me crazy. I’m amazed to see how are we reading newspapers  with  pictures & news about the poor people of country who are on the verge of dying, Our mothers & sisters, who should be respected in countless ways , being treated badly..old men in their  80s   carrying a bag of flour… & on the other hand picture of our government officials congratulating the president on the completion of his one year… What is this???????  We people are sick…really sick …Why cant this  amount  which is being spent on adverts promoting president be given to the poor ones.

“Want to go or not? “asked rickshaw driver & i was back in the present…“Yeah, why not,  140 done..” I replied & stepped in the rickshaw…On the way I have been thinking about all the crisis around us…Flour, sugar, electricity, water…..lets not talk about about medicines...      ( poor people don’t care about medicines…) etc etc…..I was blaming my self  for being so rude to him for just 10 rupees , which would have not made any difference…I was not happy ..not at all…

Well, lets just stop fighting on little amounts…let’s understand that if Almighty Allah has blessed us with something, we should try to give  the same or atleast what ever one can afford , to the needy ones.

I remember reading in Quran Pak about the wealth..that “whatever is more then your needs , its not yours..its for the deserving & needy” ( I am sorry I could not remember the reference)

Here are some more ayats from Quran regarding helping the deserving people..

Have you seen him who belies the rewards and punishments of the Hereafter? He it is who drives away the orphan and does not urge giving away the food of the poor. (107:1 – 3)

Do not keep your hand fastened to your neck nor outspread it, altogether widespread, for you will be left sitting rebuked, destitute. (17:29)

(In reference to the slaves of Allah) “who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly but keep the golden mean between the two (extremes) (25:67)

You shall not attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love (in the way of Allah). Allah knows whatever you spend. (3:92)

(O Prophet!) Tell those of My servants who believe that they should establish Prayer and spend out of what We have provided them with, both secretly and openly, before there arrives the Day when there will be no bargaining, nor any mutual befriending. (14:31)

This is for sure that it  will be more rewarding for us in this world & the world hereafter , Please contribute whatever you can , to help the poor & needy ones and tell others to do so…Please..!

Thats an excellent post. We just dont think on these lines. We’re probably too engulfed in this world that we have totally forgotten the world hereafter. A very nice reminder indeed.
